Here I am, blogging about my second internship at XuanWorks Production six months later. Outdated it may be, I still feel like documenting the experience that played a significant role in my life.


My first shoot for AccuChek (1 day). A gadget to check your blood glucose level I think? Haha. We did blood checks for everyone and my level was within the healthy range. I finally really understood the importance of logging time codes on set. I needed lots of coffee to survive that day and goodness our crew basically cleared out all the hot drinks from the vending machine. Tea, coffee, chrysanthemum you name it, all gone.


Second shoot for Maxis (2+1/2 days). A lot of takes, the script was just too informative it was hard for the cast to memorise and deliver it smoothly! We had to work with this cute little boy on set. Adorable how he kept wanting to eat the cake but wasn't strong enough to actually lift the cake (he had to in the ad)! Tiring day filled with lots of coffee yet again. And once we got back to the office, we found we needed to reshoot a few scenes! Production nightmare for Xuan! But for me, I enjoy shooting and I was an intern so it was stress free.


Third shoot for F&N Orange (1 day). Woke up extra early to get on location to set up. We had elaborate Chinese New Year decorations everywhere even when it was actually nearer to Christmas. Cleaning pomelos, stringing little oranges, being an extra, time code logger and photographer on set, it was a heck of a long day. The camera crew was visibly tired trying to get the difficult liquid shot just right. My bag and I made an appearance in the advertisement haha my bag had way more screen time! It marked the first time that Chuan took over as Director of Photography from Loh. All calm, no nerves, he did amazing!

Fourth shoot for Carlsberg (few hours). It was the shortest, easiest shoot ever. I think we wrapped in four hours or less. This account was handled by Naga DDB and I must say the concept for the ad was pretty cool. We shot at a restaurant in PJ pretty near my first internship office, ah the memories.


Sixth shoot for New York Skin Solutions (2+1 days). Didn't get any photos of the fifth shoot. My internship was actually over but I had been following the project so closely, I couldn't miss out on the shoot! Skipped a class for this. It rained so heavily the first day, we had to postpone the shoot! The set ups were really pretty, blue balloons in a park, a cheerful baby room, the gorgeous living room and a classy dining area. We had so many clients on set, we had to restock the food and drinks many, many times! Catering was from Century Caterers and they kept improving each time Xuan works with them. Yum.


Sixth shoot for London Weight Management (few hours). Our lead, Beauty was such a joy to have on set! I can remember so clearly how Xuan's assistant producer San had to stand behind Beauty and wobble her arm to enhance the jiggling fats. Hilarious! We wrapped quite late but it was such an awesome time on set (I love shoots!) and bittersweet saying proper goodbyes to the crew.

They taught me the ropes and made working there so enjoyable. San is the most incredible at producing, her negotiation skills are out of this world. Jes is a superwoman, she handles so many jobs it is unbelievable.



Kelly came first. She's so skinny and always dieting. We always thought she was so free while we were so busy but that changed after I left. Having Bi Shan around sure was full of surprises. She would always show me the cool shots she took excitedly. The new interns Bernard and Flip came at the right time for me and Tiffany to bully...pass over our jobs heh. For a few days, the office was so packed with employees it seriously felt so 'meriah'!



Ever patient but straightforward too. Guidance when there needed to be and motivation to solve things on my own as well. I survived this internship with flying colours thanks to Miki and with more passion than ever thanks to Bryan =)



It was nice to be able to work with the same camera crew shoot after shoot. You kinda build a certain trust and bond plus you get used to their work style. The lame jokes sure helped too. A crew that can always lift the mood up on any set, any shoot, any situation ^_^


Tiffany went through the two months internship madness with me. I think we were both awkward with each other at the beginning, but there's nothing quite like an internship to facilitate bonding. She listened to me a heck lot and once offered to scold someone who was bothering me for me!

Production is really about teamwork, effiency, PR skills, balancing frustration with tolerance and patience, but most of all, it is passion that really gets you through the day. What a difference two months made.
